Biomass potential for individual species

Eucalyptus coccifera (Tasmanian snow gum)

Species potential for biomass > Species potential for E.coccifera

Eucalyptus coccifera has a long history of being cultivated as an ornamental specimen tree in the British Isles, and many large old specimens are recorded.

It is not well represented in forestry trials, but the few surviving specimens in old trials (e.g. in Thetford forest) suggest that it has the potential for greater volume growth on short rotations than other hardy species. Provenance variation for growth, form and hardiness in this species and closely-related E. nitida (which is less hardy) is likely to be great. Defined provenance sources of this species deserve to be trialled more widely.
